Exciting News from TOCAG

Since TOCAG was founded in 2019, we have accomplished a lot! And we couldn’t have done it without the support of people like you.

TOCAG became an incorporated charity so we can sign contracts and own assets.

We commissioned a major appraisal and condition survey by Historic England of the tower and moated enclosure it stands in. These surveys have produced extremely accurate ground measurements of the moated enclosure and can show hidden and buried features such as ancient roads and lost buildings, and the laser scan and complete photographic survey of the tower itself, inside and out, have produced a 3D digital model of the tower that is accurate to 1mm and can virtually be “flown through.”

We also commissioned a physical examination of the tower by architects and building restorers that gave us a first indication of some of the structural issues that need to be addressed before the tower can be considered “safe” – both for its own future and for people that approach or go inside it.

We also have accumulated a store of research about the history of the Thundridge Old Church and the surrounding Rib Valley. We have discovered narratives of local, domestic, national and even international significance and remain endlessly fascinated and enthusiastic to find out more, make new connections and plan new investigations.

But that is what we have done in the past… what have TOCAG been up to lately? Well, we are very excited to have a series of extraordinary news to share starting tomorrow and a vision to unveil over the coming weeks that sets out a future for the church and your part in it.

For now, this image is a small taster of what’s to come.
