Diocese Meeting & Next Steps

In December last year we had a positive meeting with the Diocese, with many new people now involved, which gave an opportunity to restate the status and objectives of TOCAG, particularly in the light of the new private ownership approach and make a bit of a fresh start.

The Diocese accepted that a partnership is necessary to give the best chance of a rapid mutually advantageous outcome, and to that end agreed two principle next steps.

  • To mobilise their network of building inspectors to survey the building and create the costed programme of maintenance works.
  • To make available their Historic Church Building Support Officer, a role ‘helping communities maintain, repair and adapt their historic church buildings‘ through developing management and funding plans

Together it is hoped that this will enable us to meet the original scope of the feasibility study, that is essential to transfer of both ownership and maintenance responsibilities, within the grant earmarked from Historic England.
